The NKAE Educational Foundation is a non-profit working to make quality education reachable for every African learner. We focus where the gap is widest — rural classrooms without connectivity and women without a path to higher learning — and build lasting programs alongside the communities we serve.

A foundation built on access and dignity.
NKAE Educational Foundation has been leading digital literacy since 2023, a foundation with a combined focus on supporting digital literacy in rural communities and gender equality in higher education. We believe digital and gender inclusivity is integral to quality education, making educational opportunities more equitable and accessible, and increasing social transformation and economic stability across the lifespan.

Our Story
In 2022 we conceived a bold idea: to establish the first all-women’s college, NKAE University, in Ghana, expanding women’s access to quality liberal-arts higher education with a focus on STEM and leadership development. At its inception, NKAE is poised to prepare women to generate bright ideas, take bold initiatives, and leverage confidence and community connections for career readiness.
To get started, in 2025 we launched an ambitious digital literacy program in Akobima, a small village in the Central Region of Ghana. Our goal is to close the wide gulf in educational resources, technology, and ICT practice at the K–8 level in rural and less-endowed schools. We care about rural communities because most of us trace our origins to small villages, where there is rich, untapped potential among young minds eager to learn and lead.
Through digital equity in rural community schools and gender-parity advancement through NKAE University, we are building a cadre of today’s leaders, igniting vibrant but untapped ingenuity to realise Ghana’s human capital to its fullest.
The Robert Odoom Cann (ROC) Center
In 2023 we donated a small set of computer equipment to the basic school in Akobima. A year later we expanded it into a full-scale computer center — the Robert Odoom Cann (ROC) Center — supplementing the Ministry of Education ICT curriculum. Today, at their own initiative, students have founded a Computer Club and pursue robotics engineering to grow and sustain their digital skills.

LEGACY & FOUNDERS
Why we built NKAE.
Dr. Theresa E. Cann and Dr. Reginald O. Cann established the NKAE Educational Foundation in 2026 to improve the ways digital literacy reaches rural communities and women gain access to higher education, partners in life and in the belief that education changes everything.
