Digital Literacy in Rural Communities is Non-negotiable

Rural communities have contributed to Ghana's vibrant economy, human capital, and economic development. To uphold this critical function, we envision a future where every rural community has access to digital tools, knowledge, and skills to thrive in a technology-driven world. Technology skills for K-8 students is non-negotiable for a thriving rural community in today's fast paced AI fueled economy.

Economic security for youth is non-negotiable for a flourishing rural society.

In 1994, Ghana became the first West African nation to be connected to the Internet, with cyber cafes found in some of the smallest villages. The Data Development Group of the World Bank reports that, Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Ghana is progressively on par with other low-income countries, but above the 1.1% average for the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

The Ghanaian government has supported various initiatives, including the establishment of model Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) high schools to advance the ICT infrastructure. While these gains are laudable, the technology divide between less endowed schools mostly found in rural communities and unemployment for youth in Ghana is high. Yet many youth are eager to learn and grow their skills to become financially self-sufficient.

By providing access to technology and digital education, NKAE Educational Foundation will empower underserved communities, creating opportunities for learning, economic growth, and social mobility.

Digital Freedom

To ensure digital equity, NKAE Foundation advocates access to a full range of digital literacy programs in rural communities— including supplying robotic equipment, building energy-efficient labs equipped with solar panels, computers, and wireless internet connectivity — for all students regardless of rural community location.
