Dr. Reginald Odoom Cann
FounderDr. Cann is a trained International Educator and Student Affairs Practitioner with over two decades of experience in higher education.
She is a distinguished strategic leader in building infrastructure from scratch for global education and student affairs offices for a number of universities in the United States.
Her expertise encompasses international admission, student academic success, student leadership development, faculty affairs, curriculum design, and steering university policy and practices related to institutional collaboration abroad.
Dr. Cann devoted a substantial portion of her professional career to a women’s college in the United States, a tenure that significantly shaped her interest and focus on women’s experiences in and access to higher education, as well as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education for women.
Her research spans disciplines and fields like: the sociology of education, education and gender, and the relationship between society and education. Her interests include patterns of gender imbalance in higher education, gender disparities in STEM education, and the decolonial dimensions of education as an alternative framework for examining educational policy and practice.
She enjoys exploring the ways in which women catalyze structural transformation within educational policy and practice in higher education and the strategies they use to achieve these goals to influence educational practices toward gender equality. She is a keen supporter of women scholar-activists in higher education, with the aim bringing visibility to their contributions to the field of education.
Outside of higher education, Dr, Cann has been involved in youth-empowerment humanitarian programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, monitoring and evaluation of programs, teacher training workshops, consultation, and collaboration on policy and program initiatives for organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, East and Southern Asia, and Latin America.
She is passionate about mentoring youth to find their career path and realize their educational aspiration, coaching them in academic writing, college and scholarship applications. Dr. Cann is the recipient of many awards, including, Fulbright award to Japan, the David L. Boren Graduate Fellowship, the Baden-Württemberg Scholar to Germany, the 2024 Fellowship in Journal of International Women’s Studies, and the 2020 United Methodist Women in History Writing award.
